Shelter - The Novel Empty Shelter - The Novel

Post by baileybrat May 16th 2009, 10:45 am

Hey all, just found out that a novel of the movie is going to be made available... yay! Bad news is that it doesn't look like it will be out until this time next year... boo! It's released by Alyson Books and can be pre-ordered from Amazon UK or Amazon France (but apparently not from Amazon US).

Oooh, I can't wait... Cool Very Happy

I thought the novel usually came before the film! Not to worry. Thanks for the tip off baileybrat, I just pre ordered it too.

Strange how it says on the cover "A Novel by Caleb McCarthy" yet New York based writer Patrick Ryan is actually credited as the author. Exclamation Question

Oh lord... I know I'm buying two copies of that book then... one to read through over and over again, while the other to keep under wraps. I don't think that I can wait, a year is just an eternity!

Hi cat, I have a copy of the script. I can't quite remember where I got it from though... Maybe we should compare notes to see if there are any differences between our versions! Very Happy

I just checked out the publisher's website at http://www.alyson.com/ and the book is listed under the "Coming in Fall 2009" section... maybe I don't have to wait that long.

I so hope you're right about the earlier release date, Danny. Next year is just way too long to have to wait... and that's also a good idea about getting two copies. I may just have to copy your lead. Smile

Shelter - The Novel Empty Re: Shelter - The Novel

Post by Admin May 21st 2009, 11:02 am

Earlier today, I emailed the publishing company professing my love for the movie and how I just could not wait for it to come out. Well it looks like they made a mistake on their website and that in fact the book will not be coming out until March 2010.

"Hi, Danny, thank you for writing. The book will be out in March 2010. That’s a long wait but hopefully well worth it. Anything you can do to spread the word in advance online would be much appreciated. Best wishes, Don"

Maybe if we all email them we can get them to release it out earlier... publisher@alyson.com

Shelter - The Novel Empty Re: Shelter - The Novel

Post by Admin May 23rd 2009, 11:39 am

I emailed them back to see if there was an issue with their listing of the Shelter novel under the Fall 2009 release category and apparently, March 2010 is to them considered to be still Fall. I have no idea how they are working out their seasons, but it looks like we do in fact have to wait a whole year to read the book.

Shelter - The Novel Empty Re: Shelter - The Novel

Post by baileybrat May 26th 2009, 6:50 pm

How on earth is March/April 2010 classed by anyone as Fall 2009? Suspect

It's really puzzling why we have to wait so long. I assume the fact that Amazon know it's 235 pages long and are able to put a picture of the cover on their site is because it has already had its print run and is now holed up in some warehouse awaiting it's release date. Maybe there are some rules governing book-distribution like there are with DVD's etc?

Well, the wait is nearly over! Only a few weeks now until the novel is out and we can relive Zach's story in all its heartwarming glory again. Incidentally, the price of the book has dropped twice since I placed my order on Amazon last May, so I suppose that's one small bonus - but it's still been a bit of an irritation having to wait a whole year for it.

Ok guys and gals--March 1st is the day. It's only $10 on amazon and I am defintely ordering a copy. Let's all show our support and order right away!!! When is Trevor going to get an A-list role--it's obvious from his acting in Shelter that he is an actor of that caliber. Danny, is there anything his fan club can do to support him (besides buying the Shelter book/movie?)

Well folks, looks like SHELTER the book is delayed until June. I just got a notice from Amazon saying that my order will ship June 4-8.

If anyone hears differently, or gets their book earlier, be sure and post here!

Wow the delay is getting to me. I've even sent a twitter reply to Alyson Books and an email, both of which I still haven't gotten an answer. It honestly doesn't look too good in terms of the book coming out if even the publishers themselves can't get the book out there.

Amazon emailed last week and asked me to renew my "preorder." I did and there was some reference to a July delivery. But I agree with Danny -- I don't know if we can count on that as a firm date.

Shelter - The Novel Empty Shelter- The Book -- Update!

Post by eric85 July 4th 2010, 6:02 pm

Okay, another "update" from Amazon regarding Shelter: A Novel. Here's what the email said:

"We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on March 03 2010:
Caleb McCarthy, Jonah Markowitz "Shelter: A Novel"
Estimated arrival date: August 20 2010 - October 29 2010"

I hope no one's holding their breath.

I'm fine thanks striver. hope you are good too. I picked up a US copy of the dvd while I was on holiday earlier this year for the featurette and music video which the UK dvd is missing. Strange thing is, the UK dvd has a slightly wider picture aspect ratio than the US version, so while I like all the US extras, I'll probably stick to my UK dvd when it comes to the film itself.

As for the novel, Amazon UK have sent me a few 'revised' dates for its release over this past year, none of which have been met. They won't commit to a date at all now and even the entry on my wishlist just says 'currently unavailable.'

Meh! How much longer? Crying or Very sad

New release date for Shelter -- November 1, 2010. I've put in my pre-order and am hoping for the best.

I noticed in the product review they listed a third author, Patrick Ryan. I don't know if this happened before but if it didn't maybe this is a good sign.
