AfterElton has posted up the results of the 50 Best Gay Movies of 2009 and wow look at where Shelter is! Personally I thought it should have been first, I mean I liked Brokeback Mountain to some degree but Shelter is really so much more. In any case, I'm just glad to see it up there on the list.

Check it out!

Hmmmmmm, I agree with you Danny. I don't know why everyone says Brokeback Mountain is the #1 gay movie. I think that is a little exageration. I as well like you Danny, personally believe Shelter should have been #1. Don't get me wrong, #2 I guess it's ok; but I think Shelter sends a more positive message than Brokeback Mountain. I think there should have been a voting poll on this subject in afterelton.com. But still, I am happy that Shelter is on the list anyways.

actually ,the most moving film is tragedy ,personally.

i'm not make ad for any film ,but it is there is a film called "the love of siam" made in thai

do you guys know what people's reaction when it came out,it is shocked in asian ,most of people say they intoxication after see it ,me too

but it just screened in thailand ,india ,other can see only through internet, the taiwan island fans hope it could be screened in island ,so they raise funds to buy the copyright to let it happen in taiwan . and the virtual band in film is also begin their real smash in real life . and for in china maidland ,fan want to see them ,so they call on strongly to gather fans to travelle to thailand to see their idol (the lead actor in the film),and many other crazy action i just don't know how to say in english(dame eng) and in it's chinese website i see the most fans replies ever ,and as long as they do some little things ,immediately will be post on it's web,it's crazy ,ha, i have ever recommend it to many friends and guess what ,no one say it's not good , but not like shelter ,it's a tragedy

Hi hbdzh

I adore The Love of Siam, but it is a very different type of film to Shelter and IMHO isn't really directly comparable. Sure, it gets classed as a 'gay movie' because it has the story of two schoolboys falling in love as its backbone, but it also looks at a whole range of other relationship dynamics too; both family and cultural. The two boys, Tong and Mew are forced to confront and cope with loss as well as love, so while there's no denying that the heart of the movie is a tale of puppy-love between two boys who just happen to be gay; mixed in with that is a major subplot of family grief and how different people react to it. The young actors are admirable (and cute) and the film is so multi-layered that it probably has something for everyone, though if you're only interested in what happens to the boys, you may end up fast forwarding through a few other scenes.

It's probably also worth mentioning (for us in the West) that The Love of Siam is available in two versions; the original theatrical release and a later Directors Cut which is 20 odd minutes longer and contains some extra, and IMHO, very pivotal moments between the two lads. (I still can't believe the scene where Mew coyly intimates to Tong that he's gay and Tong says it doesn't make any difference, wasn't actually in the original cut). Unfortunately the DVD's now released in the US and France contain the shorter more inferior version. AfterElton.com 50 Best Gay Movies of 2009 Sad

LOL! I ended up writing a semi-review which wasn't my intention at all when I started! AfterElton.com 50 Best Gay Movies of 2009 Icon_redface AfterElton.com 50 Best Gay Movies of 2009 Icon_biggrin

hello, baileybrat ,happy new year

about all you said i understand exactly ,i have seen all version i can find ,contain that 150 minutes,170 minuntes ,actually ,there is 220minutes version haven't show to the public except thailand . of course i notice other motions in the film ,including ,the families love, the friends' love and all about other emotions ,because ,i have seen it for at least 20 times ,but most impressed me is that the pure love between two school boys , the only pure love ,and i think the success of the film is earn people's sympathy through pathtic mew .and many others ,you can see this web,if you don't understand ,use a translator,
