Missing Shelter Location! Mystery Solved?

One of the Shelter movie locations members of this forum have not been able to identify is the bar and/or restaurant that Zach and Shaun visit after surfing and later, during the "montage." Actually, these could be two different locations or maybe the same. See what you think.

Now, thanks to forum member BaniLow, we may have the restaurant used by Zach and Shaun: Utro's, located on the pier in good old San Pedro. Here are two interior shots found by Banilow:




And now this one:



Utro's has been in San Pedro for years and originally was located on 22nd Street (where Zach skates during much of the open film sequence). It's well known and according to a few reviews on the web, several movies "have been shot" in the restaurant. Is this our "Shack?"

If it is, I can't be sure it's the same location that appears during the montage. Maybe? Maybe not?

This is the location we've looking for folks!

I went back and looked at the movie and studied the two scenes where Zach and Shaun are in a restaurant or bar. The first appears after a surfing session and the second during the love montage.

Look at this screen grab. Note the antique diving helmet to the left of Shaun.



Now look at the photo of the San Pedro restaurant and bar called Utro's in the lower left hand corner. See the same antique diving helmet?



Now here is a screen grab of the second scene where Zach and Shaun are having a beer. Note the Map on the rear wall.



Now look at the interior photo of Utro's and note the same map on the rear wall.



I think it's a match. Another one down. So what's left?

That is it -- no doubt.

And that map confirms it.

And also note that in the photo with the women sitting at the bar there is a "pass-thru" from the kitchen to the eating area. In the photo of Shaun, you can see the same pass-thru with the same green chalkboard under it (and warming lights and wood frame). The diving helmet is in the same location too, and the print on the wall right above it is the same one in both photos. At first glance, things look a little different, but that is only because of the way the camera angle picks up the corner of the wall and the arch in the ceiling in the Shaun photo.

(Although I must admit, in that photo I keep getting very distracted by the "fold" in Shaun's jeans -- lol).

I'm happy because we have a mystery solved. A pity that we've not made it a few weeks earlier. Then Eric would have had the opportunity to drink here a beer. He was very close to it. But surely there is another chance and we look forward to other, better photos.
